French Miami
http://www.myspace.com/mrfrenchmiami
Easily one of our favorite Bands in SF and beyond, French Miami cranks out dance-friendly post-punk anthems that you just can’t help but chant along with. Their 2008 self-titled debut is one of our most overplayed albums in recent memory, and the live renditions of tracks from their forthcoming follow up LP point to 2010 being the true break out year for the trio. If you have yet to catch these guys, you are in for a real treat — this is one of the best live bands in the city. Come prepared to dance, and potentially lose your voice.

White Cloud
http://www.myspace.com/whitecloudband
While at home with the fuzzed-out reverb lovers we consistently hype at epicsauce.com, it is no surprise that the Oakland based quartet cite both Spaceman 3 and Neu! as influences — there is a clear love for all things psychedelic here, and a vibe similar to that of the earliest Krautrock pioneers. While we are thoroughly enjoying their 2009 release Eternal Pyramid, the EP does not even begin to capture the overwhelming energy and creativity that drives their live show. This rising local favorite is not to be missed.

Silian Rail
http://www.myspace.com/silianrailmusic
The guitar and drum duo of Robin Landy and Eric Kuhn lie somewhere at the intersection of math-rock and post-rock — think a toned down Hella, with a dash of Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky thrown in the mix. Watching Robin shred on the guitar and Eric absolutely handle the drums is a truly awe-inspiring experience that will leave you wanting more. We expect Silian Rail to convert quite a few new fans at our launch party.

Sat 3/20 live electro w Hot Challenge, The New Humans and DJ Mario Muse

challenge

We are excited to bring two “hot” electro bands to the MILK stage. Combining our new launch of live music, and keeping it danceable, Hot Challenge and The New Humans team up with local electro DJ Mario Muse to make a dance party you won’t forget.

Hot Challenge
http://www.myspace.com/hotchallenge

Hot Challenge is formed of vocalist/guitarist JP Rose, vocalist/keyboardist David Rose, and bassist/vocalist Joe Rose. Hot Challenge is a genre-bending group that combines elements from rock, pop, rhythm and blues, as well as dance music to create a sound that is both unique and intensely catchy. “Electronica that you should dance to. Hot Challenge blends synths, guitars and drum machines to create a party atmosphere.”
- SF Chronicle’s OFF THE RECORD

The New Humans
http://www.myspace.com/thenewhumansmusic
The New Humans are an electro-rock band from Sacramento, CA. Favoring piano and synth over distorted guitars, The New Humans have created a solid west-coast buzz, receiving the “Best Indie Band” award in Sacramento twice. Their single “Fever” is available now on iTunes and their debut EP “Avalanche” is set to release May 2010. “[The New Humans] showcase a range of elegant floating piano themes, heavily distorted percussion loops, synthesizer hooks, walking bass lines and precise, intelligent drum beats.”
- Sacramento News and Review

DJ Mario Muse
http://www.futureuniversal.com
Mario Muse got his first taste of electronica growing up in the Chicago rave scene. Inspired by the thumping sounds of Chicago style techno, drum n’ bass, and house he set out to become a DJ. Mario debuted playing EBM, Punk, and Metal for goth / industrial bars in southern Florida. Mario outgrew Florida and decided to move to San Francisco. He became an instant hit at “Dark Sparkle” and soon was found Djing at some of the biggest goth clubs in the city. He started producing his own events, such as Debauchery at the Stud.

Wed 3/31 live music w Fake Your Own Death / Jetskiis / The Young Republic

fake

Milk Bar is bringing live music back to the Haight. We are excited to bring you two great local indie rock/pop acts Fake Your Own Death and Jetskiis and we are excited to welcome The Young Republic from Nashville to our stage.

Fake Your Own Death
http://www.myspace.com/fakeurowndeath
“Fake Your Own Death played only their fourth show ever Friday night and I couldn’t have been more impressed. The music is a mix of Joy Division, Love and Rockets and The National with brief moments of Interpol thrown in. This three piece debuted songs from their forthcoming album to a sizable crowd Friday which was really great to see…My favorite track by FYOD sounds like it would fit really well on “Alligator” by The National. “Few Plus One” is a simple track, but one that packs a serious punch. And with lyrics like “Burning airplane/ which way to crash/ no message, no map/ you take the keys man, I’ll hide the stash…”, you can see quickly the comparison to The National, at least lyrically, is pretty spot on. Another sweet track is the rocker “Mouth to Speak” which features Brain’s favorite line “Your face, my fist…I haven’t been this excited about a local group in quite some time. Get to know them.” (Front Porch Musings)

Jetskiis
http://www.myspace.com/jetskiis
Comprised of members of San Francisco’s New Centuries and Send for Help, JETSKIIS brought their adversities to the studio to be forged into the new album Spraycation, recorded by Jeremy Black of Apollo Sunshine. During the recording sessions, JETSKIIS focused on texture and atmosphere to develop their Island Grunge sound. Blending polyrhythmic grooves and reverb drenched melodies, the songs swing from deeply laid back to aggressive and raw. A mixture of Roxy Music pop art and the Meters’ driving funk, Spraycation reaches beneath the surface of the compromised modern life to find glory and sublimation.

The Young Republic
http://www.myspace.com/theyoungrepublic
Embracing old and new influences – from Dylan and late, Lennon-led Beatles to Pixies and Arcade Fire, with The Wolf conjuring up the sort of combustible commotion you might expect from The Raconteurs – The Young Republic’s subtle borrowings and hidden homages play out against a larger, intricately designed canvas that makes significant claims for a band whose time has come.

Wed 4/14 Blank Tapes, AM Magic, Mad Denizen

blank

The Blank Tapes
http://www.myspace.com/theblanktapes
“The Blank Tapes songs felt like melodic escapism layered with harmonies – songs about plants, Santa Cruz hideaways, small faraway towns. Together they have good energy and stage presence which traverse into the audience. Both the performances on and off the stage were impressive.” -THE DELI MAGAZINE SF (voted Band of the Month!)

AM Magic
http://www.myspace.com/ammagic
Over the years San Francisco’s AM Magic has generated an organic, imaginative, and sturdy style of melodic indie pop–a sound that bears the hazy brightness of hard-fought confidence. With songwriting duties split between Karma Tsocheff and Mike Alexis, images of distant boats, red-eye flights, Barcelona, and uncertainty crop up within their intertwined guitars and Doug Saenz’s muted trumpet and jazz-inspired drumming.

Mad Denizen
http://www.myspace.com/maddenizen
Mad Denizen has just completed their debut record. The album was recorded in a remarkable one of a kind studio on the norther coast of California. Under dark brooding clouds, amidst a solar eclipse, blue moon, and unprecedented solar flares – New Year’s Eve 2010, just off the crashing rocks of the Pacific Ocean, Calvin Turnbull brought the sound of Mad Denizen to fruition. The record will feature completely unadulterated analog recordings from 2″ tape directly to vinyl, and will showcase irreplaceable antique instruments from Calvin’s precious collection. In stores as early as spring.
